Landing Gear Failure and Passenger Safety

Around 9:30 PM, the Air Canada Express flight from St. John’s encountered serious landing issues. Reportedly, the aircraft suffered a suspected landing gear failure. Subsequently, it skidded off the runway and tilted onto its left side. As a result, part of the plane caught fire.

Despite the dramatic scene, no fatal injuries occurred. However, the RCMP and paramedics responded. Minor injuries were reported. All 73 passengers safely disembarked by bus. The plane could not reach the terminal. Following the incident, the airport suspended all flight operations. Subsequently, one runway resumed normal operations. Flights continued shortly after.
