ArcelorMittal Jinxi New Materials has officially launched its electrical steel brand, AMORNEX, in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province. The joint venture between ArcelorMittal and China Oriental Group is backed by a $745 million investment. The project establishes a raw materials base in Tangshan and a processing base in Changzhou. The complex aims for an annual capacity of 1.8 million tonnes of premium electrical steel sheets. It targets fast-growing clean-tech manufacturing sectors worldwide.


Expansion of Production Capacity and Infrastructure

Construction at the Changzhou facility has entered the critical equipment installation phase. Work includes building a dedicated 220 kV substation and an advanced power distribution system. The initial phase features a specialized non-oriented electrical steel production line with a 500,000-tonne annual capacity. Commercial commissioning is scheduled to begin in June 2027. This timeline will significantly bolster regional supply capabilities for industrial applications.


Serving Clean-Tech and Automotive Markets

Products from the Changzhou facility serve expanding clean-tech markets and advanced manufacturing. Key end-use sectors include new energy vehicle drive motors, high-efficiency industrial motors, and smart appliances. This strategic expansion complements ArcelorMittal’s broader global manufacturing footprint. It follows a recent production launch in Mardyck, France, as the group scales worldwide capacity.
