The study combined mineral data, trade records, and chemical models to track radioactive co-products. Less than 10 percent of this material was publicly declared or placed under international safeguards. Government Response and Laboratory Testing

In response, Kinshasa announced plans to test outgoing cobalt shipments, form a dedicated working group, and consult the IAEA for technical support. Domestic authorities will evaluate environmental and worker health risks over a 60-day period. Meanwhile, Chinese mining operators in the region rejected allegations of excessive uranium levels. The Union of Chinese-Capital Mining Companies stated that internal reviews confirmed concentrations remain too low for economic recovery.
