Sandvik AB, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, celebrates a significant milestone—50 years of producing its Osprey line of metal powders at the company’s facility in Neath, South Wales, UK. Initially starting with modest operations, the plant has grown into a leader in gas-atomised metal powder production and a pioneer in controlled expansion (CE) alloys.

A Legacy of Innovation and Expertise

Andrew Coleman, Vice President of Sandvik’s Additive Manufacturing Business Unit, remarked that this anniversary reflects the dedication and innovation of employees, partners, and customers who have contributed to the journey. He emphasized Sandvik’s long-term expertise, making it a trusted partner in industries such as Additive Manufacturing (AM) and Metal Injection Moulding (MIM).

The Neath site has become the cornerstone of Sandvik’s metal powder manufacturing capabilities. The Osprey range now includes over 2,000 different alloys, specializing in fine and mid-fraction sizes, setting it apart as the broadest portfolio of metal powders in the market. The site’s advanced atomising technology also enables the production of High-Pressure HIPped CE alloys, ideal for applications with extreme temperature variations.
