Wanji Holding Group’s Aluminium Capacity Replacement Plan

Wanji Holding Group, a leading Chinese aluminium producer, plans to replace its 580,000 t/yr smelter in Henan with a new facility in Xinjiang. The new smelter will use advanced 600 kiloampere electrolytic baths, significantly improving efficiency compared to the current 300-400 kiloampere technology. Additionally, this upgrade supports greener energy use and aligns with government goals Construction begins in March 2026, with production targeted for December 2027. Wanji will demolish the old Henan smelter after launching the new plant, complying with China’s aluminium capacity cap of 45 million tonnes per year.

 

Focus on Green Energy and Industry Upgrades in China

China’s government encourages aluminium producers to adopt greener energy and modernize equipment to meet environmental goals. Wanji’s replacement aligns with this directive by utilizing more efficient technology and cleaner energy sources in Xinjiang. Similar moves include Yidian Holding Group’s plan to replace its Henan capacity with a new smelter in Inner Mongolia, scheduled for completion in May 2026. These shifts support Beijing’s push for sustainable aluminium production and capacity consolidation.
