Call2Recycle has introduced a new Battery recycling program to recycle high-energy batteries used in outdoor power equipment. This initiative, launched in collaboration with the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI), the Power Tool Institute (PTI), and major manufacturers, aims to provide consumers with a safe way to dispose of batteries from tools like lawnmowers and snow blowers.
Industry Giants Join Forces to Drive Change
Leading brands like Husqvarna, Makita, Stanley Black & Decker, Stihl, Chevron, Techtronic Industries, and The Toro Co. are backing the program. These partnerships ensure consumers have easy access to battery recycling services. As outdoor equipment powered by high-energy batteries becomes more common, the need for an efficient disposal solution grows.
This program supports Call2Recycle’s broader goal of promoting a circular economy. It offers consumers an effective solution for battery disposal and helps reduce the environmental impact of used batteries.
Simplifying Recycling for Consumers
According to Leo Raudys, CEO of Call2Recycle, this new program makes battery recycling easier for everyone. “Through our partnerships, we’ve streamlined the process, making it more convenient for consumers to recycle their batteries,” said Raudys.
The program specifically targets batteries with more than 300-watt hours of energy. These are found in larger outdoor tools and equipment. As the demand for such products increases, proper recycling becomes even more crucial. Call2Recycle emphasizes that improper disposal can lead to significant environmental and safety risks.
Retailers and Consumers Work Together
The program also provides participating retailers with safety training and recycling materials. This ensures the proper handling of used batteries. Consumers can return their end-of-life batteries to these retailers, who will send them for safe recycling.
