Overview of the CycloneCC C1 Series
Carbon Clean has launched its CycloneCC C1 series, an advanced solution for carbon capture targeting hard-to-abate industries such as cement, steel, and energy from waste. This new series is modular and columnless, capable of capturing up to 100,000 tons of CO2 annually with concentration levels ranging from 3% to 20%.
Technological Advancements and Efficiency
The CycloneCC C1 boasts a significant reduction in height—by 70% compared to traditional systems—and employs rotating packed bed (RPB) technology. This innovation eliminates the need for columns, resulting in a 35% decrease in steel usage and a smaller carbon footprint. Additionally, the overall footprint of the CycloneCC C1 is up to 50% smaller than conventional carbon capture facilities.
Cost and Installation Benefits
Each unit is prefabricated and skid-mounted, which simplifies transport and installation. The design cuts down installation costs by up to 50% compared to conventional carbon capture systems, making it particularly advantageous for small to mid-sized emitters as well as larger operations looking to implement carbon capture across various emission sources.
Commercialization Milestone
According to Prateek Bumb, co-founder and chief technology officer of Carbon Clean, the introduction of the CycloneCC C1 series marks a significant step towards the commercialization of carbon capture technology. The “Lego-block” design enhances installation simplicity, making large-scale deployment financially and logistically viable.
Process Intensification Technologies
The CycloneCC C1 combines two key technologies: RPBs and Carbon Clean’s proprietary APBS-CDRMax solvent. This combination accelerates CO2 absorption while reducing the overall size of the installation. The APBS-CDRMax solvent offers operational expense savings by outperforming industry-standard solvents, with reduced energy demands and increased longevity.
Industry Experience and Partnerships
With over a decade in designing and operating industrial carbon capture systems, Carbon Clean holds 49 technology references globally and boasts more than 105 active patents across 30 countries. The company has received governmental support from the U.K. and the U.S., and has established collaborations with major industry players like Chevron and Cemex.
Future Developments and Customer Engagement
Initial customers of the CycloneCC C1 series will have the opportunity to shape the development of the fully commercialized product while achieving measurable decarbonization results. They will also be prioritized when the product is scaled up for broader availability.
