DEME and Van Oord Win Contracts for 500MW Fengmiao 1 Offshore Wind Farm in Taiwan

Fengmiao 1 Offshore Wind Farm

DEME and Van Oord have been awarded contracts by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) for the construction of the 500MW Fengmiao 1 offshore wind farm in Taiwan. This project, located approximately 35 km off the coast of Taichung, marks a significant step in Taiwan’s renewable energy expansion, providing a green electricity source to local businesses.

Key Roles and Timeline

DEME, through its joint venture CDWE, will manage the installation of 33 jacket foundations, their pin piles, and an offshore substation. The CDWE consortium, which includes Taiwan’s shipbuilder CSBC, will deploy the offshore installation vessel Green Jade for the task. Installation activities are scheduled to begin in Q1 2026, with the project being CDWE’s third major offshore wind foundation installation in Taiwan.

Van Oord, the Dutch company known for its expertise in marine infrastructure, will handle the transport, installation, and burial of 33 inter-array cables spanning 64 km. The Nexus cable-laying vessel and a remote-controlled trencher will be used to ensure precise cable burial. Inter-array cable installation is expected to start in 2027.

The Fengmiao 1 project is scheduled to begin construction in 2025, with operations commencing in 2027. The wind farm will operate for 20 to 25 years, significantly contributing to Taiwan’s energy transition and long-term renewable energy goals.
