Scaling Capacity to Meet Growing Demand

Ecobat, a leading Dallas-based battery recycler, has launched three new lithium-ion battery (LIB) recycling plants in 2024. These plants are located in Hettstedt, Germany; Casa Grande, Arizona; and Darlaston, England. They will process 10,000 tons of LIBs annually, with plans to increase this to 25,000 tons to meet rising demand.

The facilities focus on producing black mass, a critical material. Black mass contains valuable elements like lithium, cobalt, nickel, manganese, and graphite. It plays a vital role in manufacturing new batteries. This reduces the need for freshly mined materials and supports sustainable supply chains.

Strategic Facility Expansion Across Key Markets

  • Hettstedt, Germany: Commissioned in late 2023, this facility processes a range of battery chemistries. It handles electric vehicle (EV) packs, portable electronics, e-bikes, and power tools. It supports European automotive OEMs and collection programs.

  • Casa Grande, Arizona: Operational since April 2024, this facility works with automotive OEMs, battery manufacturers, and e-scrap recyclers. It recovers black mass for both North American and global markets.

  • Darlaston, England: Launched in November 2024, this facility serves the UK and European battery recycling industries. It processes various LIB types, offers diagnostic services, and supports sustainable material flows in the British supply chain.

Commitment to Circular Economy and Sustainability

Brett Horton, Managing Director of Ecobat Solutions, emphasized the company’s commitment to circular battery recycling. As EV sales increase and more batteries reach end-of-life, Ecobat’s facilities are well-positioned to meet these challenges. This move helps create value for stakeholders and supports the transition to a circular economy.

Stefanie Scruggs, Ecobat’s Chief Sustainability Officer, reiterated the company’s focus on reducing the environmental impact of battery production and disposal. “We are committed to driving innovation in battery recycling and creating a cleaner, more sustainable future.”

Ecobat continues to expand globally. The company aims to lead LIB recycling and support the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions.
