Ecomondo 2024: A Global Gathering for Sustainability
Ecomondo 2024, Europe’s premier event dedicated to the circular and green economy, is set to take place from November 5th to 8th at the Rimini Expo Centre in Italy. Organized by the Italian Exhibition Group (IEG), this year’s edition is anticipated to attract around 900 buyers and delegations from 120 countries, with a strong presence from the Balkans, sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. IEG CEO Corrado Peraboni emphasized the event’s international scope.

Focus on Africa and Environmental Challenges
At its 27th edition, Ecomondo will highlight Africa’s role in addressing global environmental challenges. IEG President Maurizio Ermeti noted the extensive program of events planned for this year’s forum, including the Africa Green Growth Forum. This initiative, in collaboration with Ecomondo’s Scientific Committee, chaired by Professor Fabio Fava, will discuss critical topics such as the Mattei Plan, textile waste exports, and rising sea levels in the Mediterranean.

The Mattei Plan: Advancing Renewable Energy in Africa
Scheduled for November 7th, the Africa Green Growth Forum will focus on the Mattei Plan’s initiatives to establish a Centre of Excellence in Morocco for renewable energy training across Africa. Alessandra Astolfi, head of IEG’s Green&Technology Division, highlighted the forum’s comprehensive agenda, which will also cover energy, agriculture, the circular economy, and socio-economic development in Kenya. The Mattei Plan promotes the biofuel supply chain in Africa and advocates for waste valorization, supported by a significant $210 million investment from the Italian Climate Fund and the International Finance Corporation.

Key Events and Discussions
Ecomondo 2024 will feature a variety of important discussions and events, including “Rising Sea Levels in the Mediterranean, the Forgotten Threat” on November 6th, organized by Ecomondo and the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM). Additionally, “Accelerating Blue Interregional Cooperation in the Mediterranean Basin” will take place on November 7th, and “Urban Textile and Second-Hand Waste Exportation” is scheduled for November 8th, both emphasizing the importance of sustainable practices in waste management.
