The Waste Alliance Group (WAG) of North Carolina is set to host the Material Recovery Equipment Demonstration Week from Nov. 12-14 in Statesville, North Carolina. The event, aimed at showcasing innovative landfill reclamation techniques and material recovery solutions, will feature both educational sessions and live equipment demonstrations.
Educational Sessions and Expert Presentations
The event kicks off with morning seminars at the Statesville Civic Center where attendees can hear from industry experts on various topics related to landfill mining and waste management. Notable speakers include Subodh Das, Ph.D., of Phinix LLC, who will present on landfill mining techniques, and Ed Mussler, former official at the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ), who will share insights on waste management strategies in the state. Additionally, Raymond Hoffman will discuss shingle recycling and techniques for density improvement in landfill operations.
Live Demonstrations of Equipment and Technology
In the afternoon, the event shifts to the Iredell Landfill, where attendees will experience live demonstrations of advanced recycling equipment. Leading companies in landfill reclamation, including Lindner, E-Factor 3, ELV Select Equipment, and 3r Machinery, will showcase machinery used to recover valuable materials such as iron, steel, aluminum, copper, plastic, and wood from landfill sites.
Measuring Recovery and Environmental Impact
A significant aspect of the demonstrations will include measuring the efficiency of material recovery, with participants observing the weighing of recovered materials. This process helps to evaluate the proportion of materials recovered versus waste volume, highlighting the airspace savings achieved by effective recycling practices.
Event Registration and Costs
Attendees can register for $50 to gain access to all sessions and demonstrations. The event offers the opportunity to earn seven continuing education credits. Registration is available through the WAG website.
