Novelis Reports Significant Progress in 2024 Sustainability Efforts

Novelis Inc., based in Atlanta, has unveiled its sustainability report for the fiscal year 2024, which spans from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024. The report details the company’s advancements toward its sustainability objectives, focusing on key areas such as environmental performance, employee safety, diversity and inclusion, and community engagement.

Achievements in Carbon Emission Reduction
The report reveals that Novelis has successfully reduced its absolute carbon emissions by 27 percent from its 2016 baseline, encompassing scopes 1, 2, and 3 emissions. Additionally, the company has reached an average of 63 percent recycled content in its aluminum rolled products for 2024, successfully recycling over 2,300 kilotons (approximately 2.5 million tons) of aluminum, including 82 billion used beverage cans.

Commitment to Carbon Neutrality
“I am incredibly proud of the FY24 results and our progress toward our goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050,” stated Novelis President and CEO Steve Fisher. He emphasized that the achievements are a result of innovative approaches, strong customer relationships, and the dedicated efforts of the company’s employees, all working toward a shared vision of a sustainable future.

Highlights of the Sustainability Report
The report also outlines several additional accomplishments, including:

• A 28 percent decrease in carbon emissions intensity from the 2016 baseline.
• An 8.8 percent reduction in waste-to-landfill intensity since 2020.
• Contributions of $8.7 million to charitable initiatives.
• The allocation of $588 million in green bond funds.
• Completion of three major solar energy investments.

Novelis 3×30 Initiative
In a move to further its sustainability agenda, Novelis recently announced the Novelis 3×30 initiative, which establishes carbon-related sustainability targets and strategies to expedite the company’s decarbonization and circular economy initiatives. The initiative aims for three key objectives by the end of 2030:

1. Achieve 75 percent average recycled content in products.
2. Become the lowest-emissions provider of flat-rolled aluminum products, targeting less than 3 metric tons of CO2e per metric ton of flat-rolled product shipped.
3. Promote circularity through targeted investments.
