PTC Industries Secures Titanium Sponge Supply Deal with ATTM

PTC Industries

Strengthening India’s Aerospace Titanium Supply Chain

PTC Industries has entered into a strategic titanium sponge supply agreement with Amic Toho Titanium Metal (ATTM), a move that strengthens India’s aerospace and high-performance metals sector. Since the company recently commissioned a vacuum arc remelt (VAR) furnace, this agreement ensures a reliable supply of raw materials for titanium ingot production. As a result, PTC can now enhance its manufacturing capabilities while reducing reliance on fluctuating global markets.

Expanding Titanium Ingot Production in India

PTC’s subsidiary, Aerolloy Technologies, operates the VAR furnace, which boasts a 1,500 t/yr melting capacity. This cutting-edge facility allows the company to produce aerospace-grade titanium ingots. Because titanium sponge is essential in the melting process, securing a stable supply from ATTM guarantees a steady production flow. In addition, PTC combines titanium sponge with titanium scrap and master alloys, such as aluminum-vanadium, to produce high-quality titanium materials.

However, India’s titanium scrap supply remains limited, making imports from Europe and Asia necessary. Consequently, PTC’s reliance on imported scrap posed a challenge. Fortunately, this new agreement with ATTM reduces that risk and ensures a more consistent raw material supply. Moreover, the deal enhances PTC’s ability to meet growing demand in the aerospace, defense, and industrial sectors.

ATTM’s Key Role in Aerospace Titanium Supply

ATTM is one of only four titanium sponge producers globally that are approved for aerospace applications. Furthermore, the company operates with a 15,600 t/yr nameplate capacity, reinforcing its position as a major player in the titanium industry. As a result, its high-quality titanium sponge supports a variety of critical applications, including aerospace and defense manufacturing.

By securing this agreement, PTC Industries gains a competitive edge in the global titanium ingot market. Additionally, this move aligns with India’s long-term goal of strengthening its domestic aerospace and defense supply chains. With a stable titanium sponge supply, PTC is now better positioned to expand its operations while minimizing reliance on foreign raw materials. Therefore, this partnership marks a significant milestone in India’s growing metals and alloys industry.
