Strategic Milestone in SLB-BP Partnership
SLB, a leading energy technology company, has secured a pivotal contract from bp for its OneSubsea joint venture, marking a significant expansion in the companies’ longstanding partnership. This contract, awarded for the Kaskida project in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, includes the supply of subsea boosting systems essential for bp’s first Paleogene field development. The Kaskida project is a major greenfield development in deepwater, and the contract signals the growing importance of subsea boosting technologies for maximizing offshore production.
This deal is particularly notable as it represents the first engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract between SLB OneSubsea and bp for subsea boosting systems. The Kaskida project’s reliance on advanced subsea processing technology aligns with bp’s broader strategy of enhancing recovery and minimizing environmental impact in its offshore developments.
Subsea Boosting: Key Technology for Maximizing Production
The subsea boosting system provided by SLB OneSubsea will play a crucial role in the production process by enabling artificial lift, which helps maximize the recovery of reserves in the Kaskida field. The system is designed to operate in high-pressure conditions and will be integrated with an advanced power and controls umbilical system, as well as associated topside equipment.
By deploying this cutting-edge technology, bp will be able to accelerate the recovery of oil from the reservoir, which in turn will boost overall production rates. The system is also optimized to minimize energy consumption, ensuring that the production process remains efficient and sustainable in deepwater environments.
Enhancing Recovery with Minimal Energy Use
The subsea boosting technology is an essential component for the Kaskida project, as it will directly support bp’s efforts to increase the production life of the reservoir. The system will provide the artificial lift required to maintain optimal flow rates, which is particularly important for maximizing extraction from deepwater reserves. Notably, the system’s efficiency in energy usage will also help bp achieve its sustainability goals by minimizing the environmental footprint of the production process.
Mads Hjelmeland, CEO of SLB OneSubsea, highlighted the strategic importance of the contract: “We’re delighted to expand our relationship with bp into the subsea processing domain, especially with such a critical delivery to bp’s first Paleogene field development.
Our subsea boosting system will accelerate and maximize the immense potential for this development.”
A Step Toward Sustainable and Reliable Offshore Energy
With subsea boosting systems gaining traction as an effective solution for offshore fields, this partnership with bp further underscores the growing role of advanced subsea technology in the oil and gas sector. The Kaskida project, with its reliance on artificial lift and subsea processing, will not only contribute to bp’s production goals but also set a precedent for future deepwater developments aimed at maximizing efficiency and sustainability.
