Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (Miteco) has introduced a €750 million ($811.5 million) program designed to enhance the country’s manufacturing capacity for renewable energy technologies. The initiative will focus on supporting the production of electrolysers, solar panels, wind turbines, heat pumps, and batteries.
The scheme is open to both new projects and existing facilities seeking to expand their operations. Subsidies will be awarded through a competitive process that considers “economic, strategic, social, and environmental criteria,” according to Miteco.
Spain is already home to several leading hydrogen technology companies, including electrolyser manufacturers H2B2 and Ariema Enerxia, as well as electrode producer Matteco. This new initiative is part of a broader European effort to advance hydrogen technology. Just last week, the European Commission approved a €1.2 billion Spanish state aid program to support the development of electrolyser plants in designated hydrogen hubs.
