$150 Million Investment to Boost Local Economy and Sustainability
Trademark Metals Recycling LLC (TMR), a subsidiary of The David J. Joseph Co., has opened a cutting-edge metal recovery facility in Sumter County, Florida. The 100,000-square-foot plant is designed to process auto shredder residue (ASR) produced from TMR’s shredding operations. The new facility, which was officially launched with a ribbon-cutting ceremony last month, represents an investment of approximately $150 million, excluding land purchase costs. The project is expected to create significant economic benefits for the local community, generating high-paying, long-term jobs.
The development of the facility was a result of years of planning and collaboration between TMR, Sumter County Economic Development, SECO Energy, and the city of Bushnell. The facility currently employs 67 staff members across two shifts and works with various contractors to meet its operational needs. Vice Chairman of the Sumter County Board of County Commissioners, Jeffrey A. Bogue, expressed excitement about the new technology TMR is bringing to the region, highlighting its potential to foster both economic growth and sustainability in the recycling sector.
Enhanced Recycling Capabilities with State-of-the-Art Technology
TMR’s new facility will primarily handle ASR, a byproduct from auto shredding operations. This is a critical part of the company’s strategy to improve the efficiency of metal recovery and reduce waste. The facility’s advanced technology is expected to further enhance TMR’s metal recycling capabilities, contributing to the broader goals of sustainability in the recycling industry. Through its operations, the facility will help reduce landfill waste while recovering valuable metals for reuse in various applications.
As a wholly owned subsidiary of Nucor Corp, TMR plays a pivotal role in supporting Nucor’s commitment to sustainability and resource conservation. Nucor, one of the largest manufacturers of steel and steel products in the U.S., also works in ferrous and nonferrous scrap brokering, processing, and supplying ferroalloys. TMR’s facility will contribute to these efforts by increasing the supply of reclaimed metals, which are essential for the manufacturing of steel and other products.
Local and Global Impact on the Recycling Industry
TMR’s new Sumter County facility is expected to make a significant impact both locally and within the global recycling sector. The company’s operations align with Nucor’s larger sustainability initiatives, which focus on reducing the environmental impact of metal production through recycling. As TMR continues to enhance its metal recovery technologies, the facility will serve as a key asset in Nucor’s ongoing commitment to sustainable practices and a circular economy for metal materials.
