Trademark Metals Recycling LLC (TMR), a subsidiary of The David J. Joseph Co., has opened a new metal recovery facility in Sumter County, Florida. The facility covers 100,000 square feet and processes auto shredder residue (ASR) from TMR’s shredding operations. This facility represents a $150 million investment, excluding land costs. The facility is expected to generate long-term, high-paying jobs and deliver significant economic benefits to the local community.
The project resulted from years of planning, involving TMR, Sumter County Economic Development, SECO Energy, and the city of Bushnell. The facility currently employs 67 workers across two shifts and collaborates with various contractors. Vice Chairman of Sumter County’s Board of County Commissioners, Jeffrey A. Bogue, expressed his excitement about TMR’s new technology and its potential to drive economic growth and sustainability in the recycling sector.
Enhanced Recycling Capabilities with State-of-the-Art Technology
TMR designed its new facility to handle ASR, a byproduct of auto shredding. This aligns with TMR’s goal to improve metal recovery efficiency and reduce waste. The facility uses advanced technology to enhance TMR’s metal recycling capabilities. It will help reduce landfill waste and recover valuable metals for reuse.
TMR is a wholly owned subsidiary of Nucor Corp, which is committed to sustainability and resource conservation. Nucor, one of the largest U.S. steel manufacturers, also plays a crucial role in ferrous and nonferrous scrap brokering, processing, and supplying ferroalloys. In addition, the company actively contributes to the global supply chain of metals, thereby further enhancing its commitment to sustainability and resource conservation. TMR’s facility will support Nucor’s efforts by increasing the supply of reclaimed metals needed for steel production.
Local and Global Impact on the Recycling Industry
The Sumter County facility is expected to have a significant impact locally and globally. TMR’s operations align with Nucor’s sustainability goals, which focus on reducing the environmental impact of metal production through recycling. As TMR improves its metal recovery technologies, the facility will play a key role in advancing sustainable practices and promoting a circular economy for metals.
