The 2025 Great Designs in Steel (GDIS) symposium will be held on May 21 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Michigan. Hosted by the American Iron and Steel Institute, this event has highlighted steel trends in the automotive industry for over 20 years.

Key Presentations and Highlights

The 2025 GDIS agenda includes exciting insights into vehicle architecture and steel applications. The event will feature three key vehicle architecture presentations: the Volkswagen ID.Buzz, GM’s 2025 D-Segment Crossover architecture, and the Rivian R1 body structure. These displays will offer attendees a first look at how advanced steel is integrated into vehicle design.

Keynote speakers Lourenco Goncalves, chairman/president/CEO of Cleveland-Cliffs Inc., and Lyndon Lie, executive vice president/CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, will share their visions on the future of steel in the automotive sector.

Hot-Topic Panels and Technical Presentations

The symposium will also feature two hot-topic panels. One panel will focus on stamping advanced high-strength steels, while the other will discuss the role of AI in automotive steel manufacturing. These panels aim to provide insights into emerging trends shaping the steel industry.

Additionally, over 20 technical presentations will cover three main tracks: vehicle architecture, manufacturing, and materials and joining. Experts will offer a comprehensive view of technological advancements in automotive steel.

Networking and Exhibits

Attendees will have opportunities to network with over 1,200 vehicle engineers, purchasing executives, and industry leaders. The event will also showcase vehicle displays and technology exhibits from OEMs and suppliers. These exhibits will provide a hands-on look at the latest steel innovations in automotive production.

Registration for the 2025 Great Designs in Steel symposium is now open. This event offers attendees a chance to stay ahead of automotive steel trends.
