ADDIMETAL Launches K2-2 for Precision Metal 3D Printing
French metal additive manufacturing company ADDIMETAL is set to debut its K2-2 metal binder jet 3D printer at Formnext, marking the company’s entry into the commercial hardware market. The K2-2 promises high-speed, precision 3D printing of complex metal parts, addressing a gap between research-scale and industrial-scale production.
Key Features of the K2-2 Printer
The K2-2 printer offers impressive specifications, including print resolution from 360 to 1200 DPI and a build volume of 200 x 200 x 200 mm. Notably, it is equipped with what ADDIMETAL claims to be the largest print head on the market, which covers more than half of the build area in a single pass. The system features real-time environmental control through visual sensors and is powered by Orion software, designed to enhance workflow efficiency.
Additionally, the K2-2 stands out with its openness and flexibility. It supports customisable print parameters and is compatible with an open materials platform, giving manufacturers the freedom to use non-proprietary consumables. The starting price of the K2-2 is under €200,000, making it an attractive option for R&D teams and industrial applications.
Target Markets and Strategic Partnerships
ADDIMETAL is targeting key industries such as aerospace, automotive, and luxury goods with its K2-2 printer. The company has already completed a year of successful beta testing with industry partners, including aeronautics company JPB Système, which also acquired a stake in the company. This partnership underscores the machine’s potential for use in high-demand, precision-driven sectors.
Future Plans and Market Expansion
Looking ahead, ADDIMETAL plans to expand its reach and explore strategic funding opportunities. At Formnext, the company aims to showcase the K2-2 printer and its Orion software, further cementing its position in the growing metal additive manufacturing market.
