China’s leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, BYD, is planning to build an EV assembly plant in Cambodia, according to a statement by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet. The plant is expected to have an annual production capacity of 20,000 units. Cambodia aims to have 30,000 electric vehicles on its roads by 2030 as part of its EV development plan for 2024-2030.
BYD’s global strategy includes an annual production capacity of about 1 million vehicles, with investments in EV production facilities in Hungary, Thailand, Brazil, Uzbekistan, Morocco, India, Turkey, and Vietnam. On July 9, BYD signed an agreement with the Turkish government to establish a research and development center capable of producing 150,000 electric vehicles annually.
