The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac) has recently delivered its C919 airliner to Air China and China Southern Airlines, both of which placed substantial orders of 100 C919s each in April. These deliveries are part of a phased rollout scheduled between 2024 and 2031, marking a significant milestone as all three of China’s largest airlines now have the C919 in their fleets.
Earlier this year, in March, Comac delivered the first C919 to China Eastern Airlines, which has subsequently increased its order by another 100 units. Additionally, at the 2024 Singapore Airshow, Comac secured a new order from Tibet Airlines for 40 C919 aircraft. With total orders exceeding 900 units, the expanding presence of the C919 is expected to significantly boost demand for titanium mill products, essential in its construction. Each C919 utilizes 3.92 tons of titanium, and the aerospace industry currently accounts for more than 25% of global titanium consumption.
Having been in development since 2008 and receiving its certification in 2022, the C919 is now pursuing approval in Europe to compete internationally with major aircraft manufacturers like Boeing and Airbus.
