CNOOC Launches Huizhou 26-6 Oilfield Development Project, Aiming for Peak Production by 2027

Huizhou 26-6 Oilfield Development Project

CNOOC Limited has officially started production at its Huizhou 26-6 Oilfield Development Project. Located in the Pearl River Mouth Basin, this milestone is crucial for strengthening China’s energy production capabilities. The oilfield is set to play an essential role in the country’s future energy security.

Advanced Offshore Technologies

The Huizhou 26-6 Oilfield utilizes cutting-edge offshore technologies. These include China’s first intelligent drilling production platform and the “NAN HAI FEN JIN” Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit. These innovations are designed to maximize resource extraction efficiency while minimizing operational risks.

Innovative Deep-Buried Hill Reservoir Development

CNOOC’s Huizhou 26-6 Oilfield marks its first deep-buried hill reservoir project in the South China Sea. The development includes 19 wells, including 2 oil production wells and 17 gas production wells. By 2027, CNOOC expects peak production to reach approximately 20,600 barrels of oil equivalent per day, with a focus on light crude oil and natural gas.

Economic and Technological Impact

CNOOC’s complete ownership of the project emphasizes its leadership in offshore oil and gas development. Situated strategically in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area, the Huizhou 26-6 Oilfield will significantly contribute to China’s energy security. Furthermore, the introduction of advanced drilling technologies will enhance resource extraction efficiency, supporting China’s long-term energy sustainability.

Looking Ahead

The Huizhou 26-6 Oilfield project underscores CNOOC’s leadership in offshore energy. As China’s energy demand rises, projects like this will be key to securing the country’s future energy production.
