Comstock Metals Achieves Key Certifications for Solar Panel Recycling

Comstock Metals LLC has secured two major certifications for its solar panel recovery operations in Silver Springs, Nevada. The company now holds R2V3 Appendix G – PV Modules and RIOS (Recycling Industry Operating Standard) certifications, reinforcing its role in clean tech and critical material recycling.

These certifications validate Comstock’s proprietary delamination process, which recovers valuable materials like glass and aluminum from photovoltaic (PV) modules. The company’s closed-loop recycling model delivers commodity-grade outputs without generating landfill waste.

Fortunato Villamagna, president of Comstock Metals, highlighted the achievement as a milestone for environmental responsibility. “We process full panels into market-ready products. This is a model for sustainable growth,” he said.

Solar Panel Recovery Facility Expands Capacity and Customer Reach

Comstock’s solar panel recovery facility began operations over a year ago and now handles more than 5,000 tons annually. The company accepts PV panels from across North America, including breakage, maintenance, and decommissioned units.

The facility serves customers from Hawaii to Canada, offering full-service solutions including on-site decommissioning and logistics. This wide reach demonstrates both market demand and infrastructure readiness for sustainable solar waste management.

Evelyn Butler of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) called solar recycling a “win-win-win” for consumers, the economy, and the planet. Comstock’s dual certification helps meet growing industry needs for responsible end-of-life management in solar manufacturing.

SuperMetalPrice Commentary:

Comstock Metals’ certifications mark a critical leap for solar panel recycling infrastructure in North America. As installations scale, so will the waste—posing both a challenge and an opportunity. Comstock’s model not only captures valuable metals like aluminum but also aligns with circular economy principles.

For metal markets, especially aluminum and glass recovery, this facility sets a precedent. Clean tech industries now need scalable, audited systems like Comstock’s to secure material flows, lower emissions, and fulfill ESG commitments. The certification seals the company’s position as a front-runner in green metallurgy.
