Constellation Energy Wins $1bn GSA Contracts to Supply Nuclear Power and Drive Energy Efficiency

Constellation Energy, GSA Contracts

Major Contract to Provide Clean Energy to Federal Agencies

Constellation Energy has secured over $1bn in contracts from the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), marking a significant milestone in the company’s clean energy initiatives. These contracts encompass the supply of nuclear power to more than 13 federal agencies and the execution of energy conservation upgrades at five GSA-owned buildings in Washington, DC, and College Park, Maryland. Constellation will provide over one million megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity annually starting in 2025, reinforcing the U.S. government’s shift towards more sustainable energy sources.

The contract will support critical government agencies, including the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Federal Reserve System, and the National Archives, by supplying power across facilities located in Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. This partnership demonstrates the growing trend of corporate and governmental collaboration to foster clean energy solutions.

Energy Efficiency Upgrades for GSA-Owned Facilities

In addition to supplying nuclear power, Constellation has secured a $172m energy savings performance contract to enhance energy efficiency in five GSA-owned buildings. Planned upgrades include the installation of LED lighting, weatherization improvements, upgraded HVAC systems, and advanced building control systems. These energy-saving measures are designed to reduce operational costs and further the government’s energy conservation goals. The construction work for these upgrades will begin shortly and is scheduled to span approximately 42 months.

Strategic Focus on Nuclear Power and Future Growth

The contracts are part of Constellation’s broader strategy to extend its leadership in nuclear energy. CEO Joe Dominguez emphasized that nuclear power will play a crucial role in the company’s efforts to expand clean energy capacity. Constellation has already started the process of re-licensing and extending the lifespan of its critical nuclear assets. By 2028, the company plans to add approximately 1,100 MW of 24/7 clean energy through projects such as the Crane Clean Energy Center and the revitalization of the Three Mile Island Unit 1 reactor.
