DMZ Rolling Mill No. 2 Modernization Targets Equipment Efficiency
Dnipro Metallurgical Plant (DMZ) has launched a comprehensive upgrade of rolling mill No. 2, aiming to increase operational reliability and improve worker conditions. The project includes furnace and crane equipment repairs, infrastructure modernization, and facility updates for personnel relocation. These efforts support the plant’s broader goal of ensuring a stable and efficient production rhythm.
The focal point is heating furnace No. 2, where workers replaced part of the refractory hearth lining and repaired the furnace outlet cover. In addition, they installed new metal structures around the walking beams. DMZ will soon replace two burner blocks to further boost heating efficiency. Electrical systems and bridge cranes are also undergoing inspection and repair to ensure uninterrupted operations during the upcoming rolling campaign.
Meanwhile, the plant replaced the outdated steam heating system in the administrative complex with a 360 kW electric boiler. This modern upgrade ensures reliable heating independent of production cycles. These infrastructure enhancements highlight DMZ’s strategy to align technical upgrades with improved working conditions and long-term sustainability.
Modern Facilities Prepare for Future Relocation and Green Steel Goals
DMZ is also preparing to relocate specialists from other departments into the rolling shop. The facility will feature new office spaces and a mechanical testing laboratory with updated power and heating systems. These upgrades are part of a company-wide effort to create modern, efficient, and employee-friendly workplaces.
This rolling mill upgrade aligns with DMZ’s recent commitment to environmental transformation under Europe’s “green course”. The company plans to decommission coke production and develop an electric steel melting complex (ESMC) powered by renewable energy. These steps reflect DMZ’s ambition to lead Ukraine’s steel industry toward cleaner and more resilient production.
DMZ, a DCH Steel subsidiary, remains a key player in Ukraine’s steel sector. The company produces Ukraine’s widest range of channels, angles, and specialty profiles, including crane rails and mining equipment components. As such, its infrastructure investments signal a strong long-term commitment to industrial competitiveness and sustainability.
SuperMetalPrice Commentary:
DMZ’s rolling mill upgrade demonstrates how legacy steel producers are aligning with modern efficiency standards and environmental imperatives. By improving core equipment and enhancing worker environments, DMZ is reinforcing operational stability while preparing for its transition to electric steelmaking. This modernization not only supports near-term production goals but also paves the way for long-term sustainability under Europe’s green transition. As DMZ strengthens its infrastructure, it positions itself as a forward-looking steelmaker in Eastern Europe’s evolving metals landscape.
