Eramet has commenced lithium carbonate production in Argentina. The French mining company achieved this milestone at its Centenario plant. The facility utilizes direct lithium extraction (DLE) technology. This marks a significant advancement for Eramet. The plant’s initial capacity is 24,000 metric tons per year. This output is battery-grade lithium carbonate.
The Centenario-Ratones salar holds substantial resources. It contains over 15 million tons of lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE). This positions the asset favorably within the lithium industry. The site’s potential exceeds 75,000 tons of LCE per year. SuperMetalPrice reports that this project is a major step for Eramet.
Eramet’s Strategic Acquisition
Eramet now fully owns the Centenario operation. This follows their acquisition of Tsingshan’s minority stake. In October, Eramet bought back the 49.9% stake. The transaction cost $699 million. This move solidifies Eramet’s control.
DLE Technology Implementation
The Centenario plant successfully uses DLE technology. This method enhances lithium extraction efficiency. It allows for industrial-scale production. This technology is crucial for sustainable lithium production. Eramet’s adoption of DLE is a key development.
