1. Introduce
– Alloy of iron (about 10-20%) and titanium (about 45-75%)
– Manufactured by mixing titanium sponge and titanium scrap with iron and then melting it
– Essential intermediate applied to inhibit the formation of fine carbon and chromium carbides
– Used as a deoxidizer, denitrifier, and alloy component additive in the steelmaking process
→ Titanium is highly reactive with sulfur, carbon, oxygen, and nitrogen, forming insoluble compounds that are then sequestered in slag to be deoxidized and denitrified
