Jimmy Carter Passes Away at 100

Jimmy Carter, the 39th U.S. President, died peacefully at 100. He was at his Plains, Georgia home, surrounded by family. Carter spent over a year in hospice care. He was known for human rights, peacebuilding, and post-presidential work. He contributed significantly after his White House tenure.

 

Presidency Amidst Idealism and Economic Hardship

Carter’s presidency (1977–1981) featured triumphs and challenges. He aimed to restore trust after Watergate and Vietnam. He brokered the Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel. This brought peace to the Middle East. He promoted civil rights and fought disease and poverty. However, economic crises and the Iran Hostage Crisis overshadowed his efforts.

 

Global Advocacy Post-Presidency

After leaving office, Carter co-founded The Carter Center in 1982. The center focused on global human rights and democracy. He monitored elections worldwide. His peacemaking and public health advocacy earned him the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize. The Carter Center also worked to reduce disease and alleviate suffering.

 

Legacy of Compassion and Service

Carter’s post-presidency defined his legacy. It showcased compassion, humility, and service. His focus on peace and human rights left a lasting impact. He eased nuclear tensions and promoted global democracy. Carter often said, “I’ve had a wonderful life.”
