Global Steel Production Dips in April 2025

Global steel production slightly declined by 0.3 percent in April 2025 compared to April 2024, according to Brussels-based worldsteel. The total steel output reached 155.7 million tons for the month. For the first four months of 2025, global production decreased 0.4 percent year-over-year to 624.4 million tons.

 

Regional Production Trends

The United States mirrored the global trend, with steel production falling by 0.3 percent to 6.6 million tons in April. Similarly, Japan saw a significant decline of 6.4 percent, while Russia and South Korea reported decreases of 5.1 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively. Germany experienced the sharpest drop at 10.1 percent.

Conversely, India increased steel production by 5.6 percent, reaching 12.9 million tons in April, defying the global downtrend. China maintained steady output at 86 million tons, showing no change from the previous year.

 

North American Steel Output Shows Slight Growth

North America’s overall steel production rose slightly by 0.2 percent in April, totaling 9 million tons. Year-to-date figures indicate a 0.3 percent increase, with total output at 35.9 million tons. This slight growth contrasts with the global decline, highlighting regional resilience.
