Harbin Electric Corporation has officially commenced operations of the world’s first 660MW ultra-supercritical circulating fluidized bed (CFB) power generation unit in Binchang, China. This milestone marks a breakthrough in high-efficiency power generation, setting a new global standard with the successful completion of a 168-hour full-load trial operation.
World’s Largest 660MW Ultra-Supercritical CFB Technology
The ultra-supercritical CFB technology implemented at Binchang represents the highest capacity and most advanced specifications seen in the industry. This technology features a main steam pressure of 29.3 MPa and temperatures reaching up to 605°C, surpassing traditional CFB boiler capabilities. This achievement sets a global benchmark for high-parameter and large-capacity CFB applications, making it a significant leap forward in power generation efficiency.

The 660MW unit incorporates cutting-edge technology developed by Harbin Electric. The power plant features a domestically produced CFB boiler, designed with ultra-low emissions, advanced energy-saving features, and a 95% desulfurization efficiency. The plant’s high-efficiency turbine, developed by Harbin Turbine Company, utilizes advanced thermal performance and flow efficiency, optimizing energy production. Ecological Restoration and Regional Energy Supply
This power project also plays a crucial role in promoting ecological restoration and addressing energy needs in the Yellow River Basin. The Binchang project is designed to utilize low-calorific coal, coal slime, gangue, and mine water, while also aiding in mine geological environment treatment, land reclamation, and solid waste utilization. The plant will convert approximately 2 million tons of low-quality coal and 2 million tons of mine water each year, and it is expected to supply 6 million GJ of heat annually to meet Binzhou City’s heating and industrial steam needs.
Additionally, the project enhances regional power grid stability, helping to address local electricity shortages and facilitating socio-economic growth.

The Binchang project is a key demonstration initiative under China’s 13th Five-Year Plan and has received support from the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Energy Administration.
