Hydraulex, a subsidiary of BBB Industries, has announced the acquisition of a portable D523 Cold Spray Additive Manufacturing (AM) machine from Titomic Limited. This strategic move, based in New Baltimore, Michigan, will enhance Hydraulex’s maintenance and repair operations (MRO), allowing the company to offer precise and cost-effective repairs on critical components. The D523 machine will be used to repair and restore parts such as cylinders, gear pumps, orbital motors, and servo valves, helping to extend their lifespan.
Cold Spray Technology Boosts Repair Capabilities
Cold Spray Additive Manufacturing uses kinetic energy to deposit dense metal layers without relying on heat, which eliminates risks like cracking, warping, and thermal damage. This innovative approach enables high-quality repairs, including applying nickel coatings to cast iron parts. It allows Hydraulex to offer more advanced solutions for MRO projects than traditional repair technologies.
The adoption of cold spray AM has been gaining traction in industries such as aerospace, defense, and marine. Notable organizations like NAVSEA (US Navy), Rolls-Royce, and Airbus have integrated the technology to remediate corrosion, restore geometries, and improve durability.
