Kamoa-Kakula and Kipushi operations show strong early production, backing annual guidance.
Ivanhoe Mines, a Canadian mining company, reported that its Kamoa-Kakula copper mine and Kipushi zinc project in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are performing in line with 2025 production targets. Based on strong January and February output, the company remains confident in achieving full-year guidance.
At Kamoa-Kakula, copper production hit 45,477 tonnes in January and 40,849 tonnes in February. The last week of February alone saw 11,122 tonnes, placing annualized output at over 578,000 tonnes, which aligns with the 520,000–580,000 tonne 2025 guidance.
Project Expansion and Zinc Ramp-Up Continue
Ivanhoe is advancing Project 95 to increase Kamoa-Kakula’s output by 30,000 tonnes annually. The company plans to finish the expansion in Q1 2026 and grow copper capacity further.
Kipushi zinc mine reopened in November 2024. It produced 16,063 tonnes in January and 11,903 tonnes in February. The site previously hit a record of 14,900 tonnes in December. Ivanhoe reached nameplate milling capacity of 2,000 tonnes per day at Kipushi in late February. The company expects Kipushi to produce 180,000–240,000 tonnes of zinc concentrate in 2025. It aims to reach 250,000 tonnes in 2026.
Ivanhoe continues to improve operations in the DRC, a region rich in copper and zinc resources.
