Kazakhstan Expands Ferroalloy Capacity with KazFerroLimited Launch

Kazakhstan has opened a new ferroalloy production plant in Ekibastuz, in the Pavlodar Region. The launch marks a major step in the country’s industrial expansion strategy. The new facility, KazFerroLimited, represents an investment of 30.4 billion tenge ($57.5 million) and creates over 350 jobs. According to TengriNews, it is the first of three large-scale projects planned under the government’s development program.

The plant has an annual capacity of 60,000 tons of ferroalloy products. The specific alloy types have not yet been disclosed. When all three plants are operational, Kazakhstan aims to become the world’s second-largest ferroalloy producer, strengthening its role in the global metallurgy and materials market.

The facility features two advanced electric furnaces and a hybrid air filtration system with 99.9% efficiency. It meets international environmental and safety standards. As a result, it ranks among the most eco-efficient metallurgical sites in Central Asia.

Ferroalloy Industry Drives Kazakhstan’s Metallurgical Growth

Regional Governor Asain Baykhanov described the launch as “a strategic step toward building a full-fledged metallurgical cluster in Pavlodar.” The project will accelerate economic growth and industrial diversification. It will also help Ekibastuz become a leading national hub for ferroalloy and steel production.

Kazakhstan continues to grow its metallurgical base through partnerships and new investments. In 2022, Fincraft Resources and India’s Monnet Group began building another ferroalloy plant in Taraz, with a capacity of 100,000 tons per year. In addition, Eurasian Resources Group (ERG) is developing a 2-million-tonne-per-year HBI plant in Rudny, together with Primetals Technologies and Midrex Technologies.

These projects show Kazakhstan’s commitment to expanding its ferroalloy industry and increasing value-added metal exports. They also highlight its success in attracting foreign investment into a fast-growing metallurgical ecosystem.

Strengthening Kazakhstan’s Global Metals Position

With steady investment in ferroalloys and steel processing, Kazakhstan aims to boost its competitiveness in global commodity markets. The new Ekibastuz plant reflects the country’s focus on innovation, sustainability, and industrial leadership. As green metallurgy and energy-efficient production gain importance, Kazakhstan’s modernization efforts position it strongly for long-term growth.

SuperMetalPrice Commentary:

Kazakhstan’s new ferroalloy plant in Ekibastuz highlights the country’s clear ambition to lead the global ferroalloy market. The project combines smart engineering with forward-looking investment. It strengthens Kazakhstan’s status as a reliable supplier to global steel and alloy producers. SuperMetalPrice expects this development to attract further partnerships, expand export potential, and accelerate the transition toward cleaner, high-efficiency metallurgy worldwide.
