Liontown Resources, an Australian lithium mining company, has achieved a major milestone with its largest-ever shipment of spodumene concentrate. This significant delivery, which included 33,000 wet metric tonnes (wmt) of concentrate, marks the beginning of the company’s long-term offtake agreement with South Korean battery giant LG Energy Solution (LGES).
Expanding Global Reach and Strategic Partnerships
The shipment, which includes 11,000 wmt for LGES, underscores the growing importance of strategic partnerships in the lithium supply chain. This landmark delivery signifies the ongoing expansion of Liontown’s global presence in the lithium market, crucial for the booming electric vehicle (EV) industry. In addition to LGES, the remainder of the shipment fulfilled orders for Liontown’s existing short-term offtake partner.
Production Milestones and Long-Term Agreements
The concentrate, with an impressive 5.2% Li2O grade, reflects Liontown’s ability to meet high industry standards. The company has been consistently shipping from its Kathleen Valley Lithium Operations since September 2024. In a key move earlier this year, Liontown extended its initial five-year agreement with LGES by an additional ten years, solidifying a long-term commitment that ensures stable supply and strengthens its revenue stream.
