Marula Mining Advances Kinusi Copper Mine in Tanzania

Marula Mining

Marula Mining is nearing completion of initial copper sales and phase 1 commissioning at its Kinusi copper mine. The mine is located in the Dodoma region of central Tanzania. The London-listed firm is developing a large open-pit mine. The operation includes a two-phase processing system. Mining activities are intensifying this quarter. This increased activity will facilitate the commissioning of phase 1.

Phase 1 aims to produce 24,000 metric tonnes per year of high-grade copper concentrate. Phase 2 expects to produce an initial 10,200 metric tonnes per year of copper cathode.

Marula Mining delayed initial sales of 1,000 metric tonnes of copper. The sales were to four Swiss and UK-based global trading groups. The delay pushed the completion to 31 January. Extended metal testing timeframes caused this delay.

These tests are crucial. They will finalize sales agreements. Also, they will optimize the design of the phase 1 and 2 processing plants. The company reports that the tests have exceeded expectations.

Impact on Copper Supply

The Kinusi mine’s progress is significant. It will contribute to the global copper supply. The two-phase approach allows for flexible production. Moreover, the high-grade concentrate and copper cathode will meet market demands.
