Masdar, Sarawak Energy, and Gentari Collaborate on Floating Solar Project in Malaysia

Floating Solar Project in Malaysia

Joint Study Expands Renewable Energy Capacity in Malaysia

Masdar, Sarawak Energy, and Gentari have partnered to assess the feasibility of a large-scale floating solar power plant at the Murum Hydroelectric Plant in Sarawak. This study will evaluate the technical, environmental, and economic viability of integrating floating solar with hydroelectric systems, aimed at enhancing renewable energy capacity in Malaysia.

Floating solar technology offers solutions to land scarcity by using water surfaces and synergizing with hydro plants. This project supports Malaysia’s renewable energy targets of 31% by 2025 and 40% by 2035. The collaboration aims to drive Malaysia’s transition to clean energy, positioning the country as a regional leader in renewable solutions.
