Metal Source Expands Operations with Acquisition of Alabama Aluminum Facility

Metal Source, a subsidiary of Gebhart Holdings based in Indiana, has completed the acquisition of Imperial Group’s aluminum facility in Scottsboro, Alabama, effective August 1. This move marks Metal Source’s first expansion outside of its home state.

The acquired Scottsboro facility is equipped with two rotary furnaces and a reverberatory furnace, which are used to produce sow, ingot, deox cones, and other products. This acquisition significantly enhances Metal Source’s recycling capacity, enabling the company to process over 100 million pounds of scrap aluminum annually and produce aluminum alloys, zinc alloys, aluminum deox cones, and more.

Metal Source plans to strengthen its operations by integrating the assets of Imperial Aluminum, known for its aluminum alloy production and aluminum scrap tolling services. This strategic acquisition follows Gebhart Holdings’ earlier purchase of Bedford Recycling facilities in Bedford and Mitchell, Indiana, earlier in 2023.

Ben Gebhart, CEO of Gebhart Holdings, emphasized, “This acquisition enhances our ability to serve customers in the South, broadens our customer base, and expands our product offerings.”

Currently, Metal Source operates three aluminum melting plants — two in Indiana and one in Alabama — along with five scrap yards in Indiana. While the company has applied for an operating permit for the Scottsboro facility, it has not yet disclosed an official start date or anticipated production figures.
