Metso has launched a next-generation electric Anode Weighing and Casting Machine designed for copper electrolysis. This innovation integrates Metso’s latest Outotec Casting Control system, delivering unmatched casting accuracy, machine intelligence, and energy efficiency.
Electric Precision Meets Operational Intelligence
The new anode casting machine from Metso replaces traditional hydraulics with high-precision servo motors, making copper casting more efficient and safer. These motors control the ladle tilting process with extreme accuracy. Notably, the system returns braking energy to the grid, improving energy savings. In the event of a power outage, built-in capacitors ensure ladles return to a safe horizontal position, minimizing copper overflow risks.
This all-electric setup also reduces operational hazards. Since no flammable hydraulic fluid is used, safety is improved even in extreme casting shop conditions. The simplified cabling and installation process further shorten maintenance time and lower operational costs.
Advanced Casting Control System and Modularity
Metso’s enhanced Outotec Casting Control system now features a more intuitive human-machine interface (HMI). Operators benefit from a simplified, user-friendly experience whether transitioning from an older version or using the system for the first time.
Additionally, the control system’s modular design offers flexibility. It is compatible with both existing Outotec hydraulic casting machines and the latest electric models. This modularity allows casting shops to upgrade critical components without replacing entire systems, offering long-term cost efficiency.
According to Sami Maaniittu, Director of Anode Casting at Metso, “The new fully electric machine is the perfect choice for achieving the highest level of casting accuracy in any anode casting shop.”
Metso’s legacy in anode casting spans over five decades. This new electric system continues that tradition while responding to industry demands for sustainability, safety, and smarter automation.
