Mitsubishi Power, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, has successfully completed the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the 1.4GW Hin Kong gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) power plant in Thailand. The plant, designed to meet Thailand’s growing energy demands, is now operational and ready to supply reliable electricity to the region.
Project Details and Strategic Importance for Thailand
The Hin Kong GTCC power plant, located about 100 km west of Bangkok, features two advanced M701JAC gas turbines. The first turbine began commercial operation in March 2024, with the second unit following shortly after. This plant is owned by a joint venture between RATCH Group Public (51%) and Gulf Energy Development Public (49%).
This new facility plays a critical role in addressing Thailand’s increasing energy needs while providing sustainable, high-efficiency energy solutions. The power plant is part of the country’s efforts to ensure energy security and readiness for future energy demands.
A Long-Term Commitment to Reliable Energy
Under a 25-year long-term service agreement (LTSA), Mitsubishi Power will provide ongoing maintenance services for the turbines. The power generated by the plant will be supplied to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) under a long-term power purchase agreement. This will ensure the country has a stable and efficient energy supply to meet its future needs.
This project is part of Mitsubishi Power’s larger efforts in Thailand, including the successful completion of a 5.3GW GTCC power plant in the Rayong and Chonburi provinces. With a total of 22 M701JAC turbines deployed across various projects, Mitsubishi Power has contributed more than 14GW of power generation capacity to the country.
