Strategic Retrofit to Boost Energy Output and Sustainability Goals

Mitsubishi Power has secured a significant turnkey contract with Star Energy Geothermal Darajat II (SEG) for the retrofit of Unit 3 at the Darajat Geothermal Power Plant, located in West Java, Indonesia. Scheduled to complete by autumn 2026, this retrofit aims to increase the plant’s output from 121 megawatts (MW) to 129 MW. The project is in line with Indonesia’s renewable energy objectives and marks a key step toward reducing carbon emissions and advancing the nation’s energy sustainability.

Advanced Technology to Drive Performance and Environmental Impact

The retrofit will incorporate high-performance steam turbine technology designed to increase operational efficiency. By improving reliability, the project will play a crucial role in supporting Indonesia’s carbon neutrality goals, which aim to achieve a greener energy mix by 2060. In addition to enhancing power generation, the upgraded system will contribute to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions, in line with global environmental standards.

Ongoing Collaboration to Strengthen Energy Infrastructure

This new phase of collaboration strengthens Mitsubishi Power’s ongoing relationship with SEG. The company previously supplied a steam turbine for the Darajat facility back in 2007. Mitsubishi Power’s Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works will manage the design and manufacturing phases, while PT. Mitsubishi Power Indonesia will ensure smooth operations post-installation. The company’s geothermal projects in Indonesia have already contributed around 400 MW to the national grid, further solidifying Mitsubishi Power’s position in the country’s energy sector.

Mitsubishi Power’s Commitment to Clean Energy in Indonesia

Mitsubishi Power continues to lead in providing advanced, reliable technologies that help boost energy generation while reducing environmental impact. This project not only supports Indonesia’s renewable energy growth but also aligns with global efforts to transition to a more sustainable energy future. The Darajat retrofit marks another step forward for Mitsubishi Power’s continued contributions to Indonesia’s energy transformation, advancing the nation toward a low-carbon economy.
