
Solukon SFM-AT1500-S Boosts Nikon SLM’s Metal Additive Manufacturing Capabilities
Nikon SLM Solutions has upgraded its AM Technology Center in Long Beach by installing the Solukon SFM-AT1500-S depowdering system. This system supports large-format metal 3D printing, aligning with Nikon’s portfolio that includes the NXG 600E printer, which can produce parts up to 1,500 mm in height in a single piece. The SFM-AT1500-S stands out as Solukon’s largest metal depowdering unit, capable of handling massive components while optimizing space within production environments.
The depowdering system accommodates parts up to 600 x 600 x 1500 mm or 820 x 820 x 1300 mm, supporting weights up to 2,100 kg including the build plate. Its fully automated cleaning process uses Solukon’s SPR-Pathfinder software to analyze CAD files and simulate powder removal during design stages. This seamless integration improves efficiency and precision for complex geometries, a vital feature in aerospace and defense manufacturing.
Nikon’s Strategic Investment in Post-Processing and Powder Handling
Alongside the SFM-AT1500-S, Nikon has invested in the SFM-PCU powder collection unit. This system safely extracts and collects unused powder in a sensor-monitored container, enhancing safety and material reuse. Gerhard Bierleutgeb, COO of Nikon SLM Solutions, emphasizes that this investment reflects their commitment to providing customers with top-tier metal AM solutions, including post-processing technologies tailored for large, complex parts.
Nikon’s collaboration with Solukon began early in the development of the depowdering system, ensuring the equipment met Nikon’s precise operational needs.
