Novelis and Thyssenkrupp Forge Aerospace Aluminum Supply Agreement

Novelis

Novelis, a leading aluminum producer, has entered into a multi-year agreement with Thyssenkrupp. This deal ensures the supply of aerospace-grade aluminum plate and sheets. Furthermore, Thyssenkrupp’s distribution segment will receive these vital materials.

Specifically, Novelis will provide flat products to Thyssenkrupp’s Supply Chain Solutions’ aerospace segment. These products will originate from Novelis’ Koblenz, Germany, and Zhenjiang, China, facilities. Subsequently, Thyssenkrupp’s locations in Europe and Asia will receive these materials.

Notably, Novelis acquired these facilities through the acquisition of Aleris Rolled Products. This acquisition concluded in April 2020. Consequently, Novelis expanded its production capabilities.

Production Capacities and Material Specifications

The Koblenz plant boasts a production capacity of 150,000 metric tons of semi-finished aluminum products. Moreover, the Zhenjiang facility features a hot mill capacity of 250,000 metric tons. Additionally, it has the ability to produce 35,000 metric tons of commercial plate products, according to available data.

Aerospace aluminum grades, including 2024, 6061, and 7075, are critical. These grades are chosen for their high-strength and lightweight properties. These properties are essential for energy-efficient aircraft wings and fuselages.
