Oman’s Eco-Friendly Ship Recycling Plant: A Regional Sustainability Milestone

Oman is set to build the Middle East’s first integrated eco-friendly ship recycling plant in Khatmat Malakha, North Batinah. The facility will dismantle and recycle over 70 ships annually, producing around 2 million tons of low-carbon steel per year in its initial phase. This initiative aligns with Oman’s national goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and addresses increasing global demands for responsible ship recycling practices. The project also supports local economic growth by creating an estimated 2,000 jobs across various sectors.
