Poland Steel Production Trends and September Decline

Polish steel production fell 11.3% year-on-year in September 2025, totaling 524 thousand tons. This decline follows a 16.2% drop compared to August. Despite the setback, Poland produced 5.65 million tons from January to September, up 5.2% from the same period in 2024. The country currently ranks 20th in global steel production, according to WorldSteel.

The September slowdown comes amid broader EU production declines. Overall, EU steelmakers produced 10.1 million tons in September, down 4.5% year-on-year. Poland’s third-quarter output of 1.79 million tons shows a 0.7% increase from Q3 2024 but an 11.6% decrease from Q2 2025.

Recent plant upgrades, including Huta Częstochowa’s restart and Cognor’s modern rolling line in Siemianowice Śląskie, signal strong medium-term potential. Investments totaling PLN 840 million have modernized operations, positioning Poland for stable steel output growth despite short-term fluctuations.

EU Context and Key Polish Steelmakers

EU steel production trends influence Poland’s market. The EU overall reduced steel output by 3.7% in January–September 2025. Poland’s recovery follows a steep decline from 2022–2023, where production fell from 7.41 million tons to 6.43 million tons.

Poland hosts six main steelmakers, including ArcelorMittal Warszawa (0.75 million tons/year), Celsa Huta Ostrowiec (0.9 million tons/year), Huta Czestochowa (0.84 million tons/year), CMC Zawiercie (1.7 million tons/year), ArcelorMittal Dąbrowa Górnicza (5 million tons/year), and Ferrostal Labedy Gliwice (0.5 million tons/year). These facilities support Poland’s gradual return to pre-2022 production levels.

SuperMetalPrice Commentary:

Poland’s steel industry shows resilience despite monthly production swings. Modernized plants and strategic investments improve capacity and efficiency. EU demand moderation will influence Polish output in 2025–2026. Investors should monitor Huta Częstochowa and Cognor projects closely, as these upgrades can significantly impact regional steel market dynamics.
