ReNew Unveils 1.3GWp Solar Power Project in Rajasthan, Strengthening India’s Clean Energy Goals

ReNew, a leading renewable energy company in India, launched a 1.3GWp solar power project in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The project spans around 3,500 acres, covering villages such as Rampuriya, Bhinajpura, Hastinapur, and Masuriya.

India’s Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, led the project inauguration, joined by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. Their presence underscores Rajasthan’s growing importance in India’s clean energy roadmap.

Solar Manufacturing, Sustainability, and Local Economic Benefits

ReNew produced 90% of the solar panels at its Jaipur manufacturing facility. This move supports the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) vision. The plant will deliver electricity to local communities at a competitive INR 2.18 per kilowatt-hour.

The project will generate 2,490 million units of electricity annually, meeting the energy needs of around 500,000 households. It will also prevent 2.3 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year, contributing directly to India’s sustainability goals.

Local landowners will benefit from long-term revenue through 25-year land lease agreements, which utilize previously unused land. These agreements strengthen rural incomes while enhancing public support for renewable projects.

Founder and CEO Sumant Sinha reaffirmed the company’s commitment to Rajasthan. “Nearly 5GW of our total capacity is based in Rajasthan. Our investments here exceed INR 21,000 crore,” he stated.

ReNew also runs a 4GW solar module production facility in Jaipur, which plays a crucial role in India’s domestic clean energy manufacturing ecosystem.

The company manages a 17.4GW global clean energy portfolio. In December 2024, a $2.82 billion privatization proposal by a consortium of companies added strategic momentum to its business.
