Renishaw, a prominent leader in Additive Manufacturing (AM), unveiled the RenAM 500D at Formnext 2024, a cutting-edge dual-laser Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) machine. This machine is designed to enhance productivity, flexibility, and cost-efficiency, marking a significant advancement in Renishaw’s RenAM 500 series. The RenAM 500D is expected to lower the entry barriers for businesses looking to adopt high-productivity additive manufacturing without the need for significant expansion in production footprint.
Dual-Laser System and Increased Productivity
The RenAM 500D is equipped with two 500W lasers, which can cover the entire build platform simultaneously. This dual-laser configuration allows for faster manufacturing times compared to traditional single-laser systems. The RenAM 500D Ultra variant further enhances this capability with Renishaw’s proprietary TEMPUS technology, which allows the laser to fire while the recoater is moving, reducing the build layer time by up to nine seconds. This results in the RenAM 500D performing up to three times faster than its single-laser counterparts, without requiring additional space for production.
Seamless Integration with Existing AM Systems
The RenAM 500D is designed to integrate smoothly with existing AM systems, offering compatibility with Renishaw’s AM software suite, including Renishaw Central and QuantAM. This compatibility ensures that current AM users can adopt the new dual-laser system without disrupting their existing workflows or operations. The system also boasts intelligent gas flow and customizable powder handling, further improving its efficiency and versatility for a variety of applications.
Widening the Accessibility of High-Quality AM Systems
Renishaw aims to democratize access to high-quality AM systems with the RenAM 500D. By offering a more productive and cost-efficient solution, Renishaw hopes to encourage broader adoption of additive manufacturing across different industries. This machine not only improves speed and quality but also ensures that companies, regardless of their size, can take advantage of advanced AM technology to drive innovation in their respective sectors.
