Tinka Resources Launches Inaugural Drilling at Silvia Project

Tinka Resources started its first drilling program at the Silvia gold-copper project in central Peru. The company acquired the site from BHP in 2021 and aims to uncover high-grade gold and copper deposits in skarn and porphyry mineralisation. In the initial phase, teams drill four diamond holes, each reaching 400 meters.

Area A represents the main drilling target, where geologists observed high-grade gold-copper skarn outcrops. Tinka Resources president and CEO Graham Carman said, “The drill rig will operate 24-7 until late December. Our team, with local stakeholders, prepared the site on time and on budget.”

Moreover, recent third-party sampling returned impressive results. One sample contained 28.5 grams per tonne (g/t) gold and 1.2% copper over 0.6 meters. These findings indicate that the Silvia project could host significant gold-copper deposits within a major mining belt.

Geological Setting Supports High-Grade Gold-Copper Discovery

The Silvia project lies in a region rich in gold and copper, shaped by a “dilational pull-apart” between two north-north-east trending faults. Mineralisation occurs in monzonite porphyry stocks and dikes that cut through Jumasha Formation limestone. Both intrusions and limestone host skarn with quartz stockwork veins.

Carman added, “Silvia offers a highly compelling, untested target in a world-class gold, copper, and base metal belt. For example, the giant Antamina copper-zinc skarn lies 100km north along trend.” He noted that additional areas, B and C, will receive exploration attention later.

In addition, initial surface sampling and trenching delivered strong results, including 46 meters at 1.9g/t gold and 0.8% copper. Localized zones graded up to 12.8g/t gold and 2.7% copper. These results confirm the project’s high-grade potential and support the ongoing drill program.

SuperMetalPrice Commentary:

Tinka Resources’ drilling at Silvia marks a crucial stage in Peru’s gold-copper exploration. With confirmed high-grade surface samples and promising geology, the project could become a major discovery. Industry observers should track assay results expected by late 2025 for early signs of resource size.
