Trimetal Expands High-Precision Sorting with New AI Technology
Trimetal advances its metal sorting capabilities with Tomra Recycling’s new Finder Color system. The French recycler now reaches stainless steel purity above 98 percent. It also increases throughput and removes the need for manual sorting. As a result, the company strengthens its position in Europe’s circular metals economy.
The recycler, founded in 2019, processes complex waste streams that include ferrous metals, nonferrous metals, e-scrap and pulper ropes. It also handles glass, wood and incineration residues. The team posted roughly €4 million in revenue in 2024. Trimetal aims to double that figure next year as it expands access to copper, brass and precious metals.
Trimetal now uses Tomra’s Finder Color as the optical core of its system. The unit combines RGB imaging with artificial intelligence to sort overlapping or similar-colored metals. It improves accuracy and stabilizes output for end users across France and the EU.
How the Finder Color System Elevates Trimetal Metal Sorting Capabilities
Finder Color Unlocks New Purity Levels and Material Flexibility
The new Finder Color system sorts metals by color, shape and size with high precision. It also switches quickly between copper, brass, stainless steel and printed circuit boards. This flexibility gives Trimetal a clear advantage as demand rises for high-purity recycled metals in Europe.
Tomra designed Finder Color to run as a standalone unit or integrate into full processing lines. It works with shredders, eddy current separators and magnetic systems. At Trimetal, the machine also complements a Tomra Finder installed in 2021. Together, both units support cleaner stainless output and stronger nonferrous recovery.
Company leaders say the system exceeds expectations. CEO Thomas Santucci notes that the technology helps the team “sort faster, process higher volumes and save time every day.” He also stresses the value of reintegrating critical metals into European supply chains with full traceability.
SuperMetalPrice Commentary:
Trimetal’s investment shows a clear trend across Europe. Recyclers now deploy AI tools to secure high-value metals and reduce risks tied to export flows. Stronger purity levels and broader material access give Trimetal an edge as demand grows from battery, electronics and alloy producers. We expect rapid adoption of color-AI sorting across the EU and North America as recyclers push for higher yields and stronger circularity.
