AE Elemental Opens New EV Battery Recycling Facility in Poland

AE Elemental has launched its first commercial-scale electric vehicle (EV) battery recycling facility in Zawiercie, Poland, on September 19. This plant will significantly advance sustainability in the EV sector by disassembling, discharging, and shredding used batteries, capable of processing 12,000 metric tonnes annually—approximately 28,000 batteries.

Key Expansion Plans
The facility produces black mass, crucial for manufacturing new batteries, and AE Elemental plans to add lithium extraction capabilities in 2024, aiming for full operations by 2026. This move aligns with EU regulations requiring a minimum amount of recycled content in batteries by 2030.

Additionally, the company intends to build a larger facility in central Germany, which will have the capacity to recycle 25,000 tonnes of EV batteries each year, reinforcing its commitment to Europe’s circular economy and sustainable energy goals.
