The Alberta Beverage Container Recycling Corporation (ABCRC) has selected Diversys Software Inc. to modernize its beverage container recovery program, enhancing efficiency and transparency in recycling operations across the province.
Digitizing Alberta’s Beverage Container Recovery
The Alberta Beverage Container Recycling Corporation (ABCRC) has announced a partnership with Diversys Software Inc., a Toronto-based technology firm, to implement its advanced software platform in the province’s beverage container recycling program. The move is part of ABCRC’s ongoing effort to improve recycling efficiency and tracking. By adopting Diversys’ solution, ABCRC aims to optimize its recycling operations, from the initial pick-up of materials to their final processing, ensuring a more streamlined and accountable system.
Diversys’ platform is designed to provide ABCRC and its network of partners—including depots, haulers, processors, recyclers, and stewards—with modern tools that facilitate better tracking and data management throughout the recycling process. The software will help improve operational workflows, making it easier for stakeholders to manage their roles and responsibilities, ultimately ensuring higher recycling rates and more effective container recovery.
Improving Transparency and Accountability in Recycling
ABCRC, which successfully recovered over 85% of the 2.6 billion beverage containers sold annually in Alberta, aims to improve this performance further. Guy West, president and CEO of ABCRC, expressed confidence that the implementation of Diversys software will help achieve even greater recycling efficiency. “With Diversys, we’re confident that their software will allow us to optimize our operations, ensuring that every container is accurately tracked, efficiently processed, and effectively recycled,” said West.
The Diversys platform is designed to increase transparency and accountability across all stages of the recycling process, ensuring that data is accurately managed and shared. By providing real-time tracking and comprehensive reporting, the system helps reduce financial losses due to inefficiencies and prevents revenue leakage, which is a common issue in complex recycling operations.
A Step Toward a Sustainable Future
Roger Barlow, CEO of Diversys Software Inc., expressed enthusiasm about supporting ABCRC’s mission to improve recycling rates and contribute to sustainability. “Our platform is built to handle complex recycling operations with ease, and we’re excited to see how it empowers ABCRC to operate efficiently, reduce waste, and contribute to a more sustainable future for the province,” said Barlow.
The partnership between ABCRC and Diversys marks a significant step in modernizing Alberta’s beverage container recycling infrastructure. As both parties look to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the program, this digital transformation will help the province maintain its high recovery rates and reduce environmental impact, contributing to a circular economy and Alberta’s broader sustainability goals.
