AMPCO METAL Acquires Schmelzmetall Group to Enhance Additive Manufacturing Capabilities

AMPCO METAL, a global leader in copper-based alloys, has significantly expanded its portfolio by acquiring Schmelzmetall Group, a Swiss company renowned for its high-performance metal powders. This acquisition strengthens the company’s position in the additive manufacturing sector, with a particular focus on aerospace and defense industries.

Expanding Additive Manufacturing Capabilities

Through the Schmelzmetall acquisition, the company gains access to a broader range of beryllium-containing powders and other high-purity materials. This allows the production of precision components for industries such as aerospace, defense, and high-tech sectors. Additionally, Schmelzmetall’s advanced 3D printing capabilities enable the company to efficiently meet the increasing demand for custom parts.

Strengthening Aerospace and Defense Offerings

Schmelzmetall’s expertise in vacuum-cast alloys and advanced welding techniques significantly enhances the company’s product offerings. This acquisition better equips the company to meet the stringent requirements of the aerospace and defense markets, solidifying its position in these highly regulated and demanding industries.

Future Integration Plans

The company has already started integrating Schmelzmetall’s team into operations, with full integration expected by the end of the year. As it expands its customer base, the company will also enhance its capabilities to address evolving industry demands. Martin Lütenegger, Group CEO, emphasized that this acquisition aligns perfectly with the company’s mission to deliver high-quality products and services globally.
