AMPCO METAL Acquires Schmelzmetall Group to Expand Additive Manufacturing Portfolio

AMPCO METAL

AMPCO METAL, a leading manufacturer of copper-based alloys, has announced the acquisition of Schmelzmetall Group, a Swiss company renowned for its high-performance metal powders. This strategic acquisition aims to bolster AMPCO METAL’s capabilities in the rapidly growing additive manufacturing sector, as well as enhance its service offerings in aerospace and defence industries.

Expanding Additive Manufacturing Capabilities
By acquiring Schmelzmetall Group, AMPCO METAL gains access to a diverse range of beryllium-containing powders and other high-purity materials that complement its existing portfolio. The acquisition allows AMPCO METAL to offer more specialized additive manufacturing solutions, particularly for the production of custom components with exceptional precision. The integration of Schmelzmetall’s advanced 3D printing capabilities and copper-based metal powders will enable AMPCO METAL to meet the growing demand for precision components across industries such as aerospace, defence, and other high-tech sectors.

Enhancing Offerings for Aerospace and Defence
One of the key benefits of the acquisition is its potential to strengthen AMPCO METAL’s position in the aerospace and defence markets. Schmelzmetall’s expertise in vacuum-cast alloys and advanced welding and casting techniques will help AMPCO METAL improve its product offerings in these high-reliability sectors. The combination of AMPCO METAL’s copper alloys with Schmelzmetall’s specialized materials positions the company as a stronger player in these highly regulated industries.

Integration and Future Plans
AMPCO METAL has already begun integrating Schmelzmetall’s sales team into its operations, with the full integration expected to be completed by the end of the year. The acquisition will also provide AMPCO METAL with an expanded customer base and new capabilities to support evolving industry needs. Martin Lütenegger, Group CEO of AMPCO METAL, expressed excitement about the acquisition, noting that it aligns with the company’s mission to deliver high-quality products and services while meeting the evolving demands of its customers globally.
